Welcome to the Capital Christian Jr. Cougar Football, Cheer & Wrestling!

It is the mission of Capital Christian Jr. Cougar Athletics to prepare student athletes to navigate the issues and realities of life by developing their spiritual, academic, social, and physical potential, all from the foundation of biblical truths.

Utilize football and cheer as vehicle to teach life lessons, developing athletes to become the best version of themselves.

Most successful high school and cheer programs have a thriving junior program that serves as a feeder program. At a young age of seven, student athletes are able to be taught culture, character and competition.  At a young age, they learn the team sports are one of the best ways to learn how adversity and resilience.  Though our junior programs are hugely successful, our priority is not about winning on the field, but how to win off the field by becoming honorable citizens.

In order to maximize the energy and effort of every family and to ensure a student loves their experience, we use a systematic approach to teach life lessons. Accountability is deployed for parents, athletes, coaches, and volunteers.  Accountability verifies the importance of every participant at every level.

The Jr. Cougar Leadership Council has more than 100 years of combined experience of working with youth and adolescent, high school, and college athletes.  Our approach is simple; Under promise and over deliver. By utilizing some of the areas top practitioners of sports performance, coaching communication, and volunteer empowerment, a Saturday with the Cougars is a vibrant and encouraging atmosphere.

Our Jr. Cougar Football and Cheer Teams are proud members of the Sacramento Youth Football League (SYF). This league consists of some of the most competitive youth football teams in the Sacramento Valley. The Jr. Cougars compete at the Division 1 level.

Our Jr. Cougar athletes represent the Rancho Cordova, Rosemont, Gold River, Mather, College Greens, and surrounding areas. Players and Cheerleaders from other areas may also join with league approval. We are do not have any geographic limitations or league restriction boundaries.  Jr. Cougar athlete do not have to attend Capital Christian School to participate on our teams.

Building off of a student’s successful experience in the Jr. Cougar community, both football and cheer athletes bridge seamlessly into our high school program.  Our football staff coaches all levels at every practice.  The varsity coach all levels.  However, we divide our practices into well organized stations the develop technique and mechanics based on what position the athlete plays and based on which side of the ball they compete.

We demand that all of our athletes are inclusive of all teammates regardless of differing levels of talent.  We believe if a student athlete is willing to put in the work, they deserve to be part of the tribe. With that, all players are taught to “know and embrace their roll.”  Our coaches are trained to have courageous conversations explaining exactly what can be expected in regards to playing time and position assignment.  Regardless of the number or repetitions or plays, each person must embrace their roll and understand that we win, lose, and learn together.

We set a high level of intensity in all facets of performance and training. It is purposed and intentional. It is urgency always. This transformational method of coaching ensures that players can perform at their maximum potential without fear of failure and without being overrun by adrenalin and emotion. Because we practice with game intensity, our athletes fear no opponent and thrive in diverse environments.

Phycological discoveries have proven that the adolescent brain, and therefor the body, performs better when it is challenged, but not belittled. The greatest indictment within youth sports is coaches who berate, belittle, and bully athletes into a manipulated outcome. Transactional coaches give athletes who under perform the silent treatment, verbally abuse, and demean. Their archaic and outdated approach systematically fails. Players end up despising competition and the coach that lacks the tools to communicate effectively.  Capital Christian Football is highly committed to transformational coaching. In no way do we lower the bar of competition, expectations, or accountability. Transforming the athlete’s performance is not based on urgency or verbal volume. Instead it is based on challenging the athlete to constantly want to better their best, in every situation.  This requires character development, intentional word choice, and common language.

In all ways, we believe that football and cheer are incredible vehicles to teach life lessons on and off the field.  We want our athletes to succeed and be significant in the locker rooms, boardrooms, and living rooms of life.
